Eco Friendly Approaches to Construction Projects

Jun 18, 2020

The entire nation’s atmosphere is gradually being exposed by the volume of pollution caused by the construction equipment. The heavy equipment and construction companies should focus on having their equipment that produces a slighter amount of smoke fuel efficiency.

Alibaton Construction Inc, (ACI) main products line which are:

In order to lift heavy loads, a crane typically utilizes cable and pulley systems to establish a mechanical advantage. Cranes play a significant role in the construction industry as they can transfer materials of various weights.

The CRANES are classified into two main categories i.e., fixed and mobile cranes, both of which have many types. Whereas in the fixed cranes category, tower cranes are the most popular, in the mobile cranes category, vehicle mounted cranes, rough terrain cranes, crawler cranes, and telescopic handler cranes capture the major market share.

A. Fixed cranes: As the name implies, fixed cranes are fixed to the ground, providing secure support and the best combination of lifting power and height. Unlike mobile cranes, because of their more excellent stability, fixed cranes trade versatility to lift larger loads and scale higher heights. In most construction areas, fixed cranes can be located. The main structure is basically fixed in one place and does not move during the period of use. They are used for carrying greater loads and reaching greater heights.

1. Tower cranes: Tower cranes are fixed mostly on construction sites. Tower cranes are used for extensive tools such as raising steel, concrete, acetylene torch and generators, and other building materials for construction sites. Tower cranes are primarily used from one position to another to move and lift power. Fixed to the ground, they are generally used in construction of tall buildings.

Descriptions:

  • Mounted over a strong concrete pad so that anchor bolts can be embedded into the pad.
  • Helps in holding the tower crane firmly while it lifts the heavy load.
  • Can easily reach up to 265 feet and lift load up to 20 tons.
  • At high-end infrastructure projects, tower cranes that can reach up to 800 meters are used.

2.   Derrick cranes:

Descriptions:

  • A lifting device composed at minimum of one guyed mast, as in a gin pole, which may be articulated over a load by adjusting
  • To lift a load, a separate line runs up and over the mast with a hook on its free end, as with a crane.
  • An indispensable equipment not only for mining of materials, but also in industrial engineering to move the heavy loads for long distances.
  • Is a mast crane. The top of its mast is fixed with the back braces (stiff legs).

B.  Mobile cranes:These are one of the most basic types of cranes found on a construction site and consist of a truss or telescopic boom mounted on a mobile platform.

Types:

  • Vehicle-mounted cranes: some cranes are mounted on vehicles like trucks to move them easily on the job site.  From the base of the truck, when this crane is erected at the building construction site, outriggers are extended horizontally and then vertically to stabilize the crane during hoisting.
  • Rough terrain cranes: these are mounted on an undercarriage that has rubber tires specifically used for off-road applications. The outriggers extend vertically and horizontally to stabilize the crane when hoisting.
  • Crawler cranes: these are mounted on a chassis with a set of tracks instead of tires and do not require outriggers for stability. They have a lifting capacity from 40 to 3500 tons (approx).
  • Telescopic handler cranes: having a telescopic extendable boom, these cranes are like forklift trucks and are often used to handle pallets of bricks and install frame trusses on many new building sites.

Though there are many types of cranes available in the market, contractors must choose the one which is most suitable for their job requirement.

II.     Rising Trend of Sustainability

Most specialists forecast a future where heavy equipment and construction machineries are transformed into semi-autonomous machines.  It is predicted the need for self-operating equipment to perform time-consuming tasks and improve efficiency is driving the trend, as is the rising cost of manpower and the lower adoption costs of the technology.

III.      Strategies

The following basic approaches and/or strategies could make a huge difference to have environmentally friendly equipment:

  • The construction equipment comes with electronic engines that lead to high horsepower. Such high horsepower ensures a lesser amount of smoke emission into the environment.
  • It is also being considered, the heavy equipment rental market in the country has also lead to move forward on the green path as the reuse, means utilizing the current resources.
  • The up-to-date equipment have fully automatic systems, fuel consumption is reduced significantly. This again leads to less smoke emission and pollution.
  • The earlier equipment which demanded a lot of maintenance due to frequent breakdowns, the present-day equipment is very technologically advanced. In lieu, there are fewer breakdowns, thus, resulting in less requirement for replacement of parts.

IV.     Materials Used /Tools Used

  • To provide the greatest level of safety for the workers and people, a hoisting mechanism was developed to integrate a clamping brake.
  • Frequency converter to allow a very smooth movement and a load limiter to adapt the mechanism to the particular needs.
  • Stainless steel wire ropes.
  • Electric motors with higher protection degree.
  • An anti-climbing system to restrict access to equipment.
  • A special paint system is being used to ensure the life of the paint to goes with the particular environment.
  • A special anchorage design for particular project.
  • All wiring channeled and access raised above the ground love, thus, the ecosystem will not suffer alteration.

V.     Construction Techniques

There are many prominent construction companies and heavy equipment supplier across the globe which have started to take some of the green steps mentioned above and have adopted newer technologies to ensure that their equipment is completely environment-friendly.

Considering the need of the hour i.e., saving the environment, pertinent example are the newly designed ACI is offering the dump trucks and mixers model which in all capacities is environment-friendly heavy equipment. It is substantially a superior machine with dramatically less maintenance requirement, better operational kinematics and dynamics and a phenomenal fuel efficiency that saves at least a litre per hour.

Further, with better technology and design enhancements, the equipment is capable of lowering lubricant refilling requirement and sustaining extended service intervals, thus, reducing the overall maintenance cost and improving fuel efficiency.

VI.     The Necessity of Eco-Friendly and Responsible Construction Practices

Alibaton Construction Inc. highly considered the heavy equipment rental business to ensure optimum utilization of resources. Apart from having a fresh range of tower crane, mobile cranes, and trucks, ACI have the best heavy equipment available on rent as well and the rental costs are quite competitive too. We aim to provide eco-friendly resources, heavy equipment, and construction machines to the construction industry and be the top company for tower crane rental in the Philippines.

Environment-friendly equipment is not only beneficial for the eco-system, but also for the construction companies as it can reduce the overall cost of maintenance of the equipment. Realizing this trend, manufacturing and dealership companies, like ACI, are now focusing on making green equipment that emits a far lesser amount of smoke and gives energy as well as fuel efficiency.
